1 Timothy 2:8 [ESV] I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
1 Timothy 2:8 [Message] Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God
1 Timothy 2:8 [GWT] I want men to offer prayers everywhere. They should raise their hands in prayer after putting aside their anger and any quarrels they have with anyone.
Notice in the verse that Paul doesn’t demand, it’s not “more men need to pray”, it’s not instruction, “when you pray lift up your hands”. It is a plead, a desire, a wish – that everywhere, “MEN” would raise their hands to God, instead of raising their voice in anger.
Seems to me somewhere along the line, someone taught me; “Stop and think before you talk”. Perhaps it’s time to take it one more step. “Stop and pray before you react.”
“Don’t lift your hands toward another, lift them to God.”
Make me holy, may I bring all of life to you.
With hands lifted up, surrendered, and needing help.
Make me holy, may you be my life.
