Psalm 33:20-22 [ESV] Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
Psalm 33:20-22 [Message] 20 We’re depending on God; he’s everything we need. 21 What’s more, our hearts brim with joy since we’ve taken for our own his holy name. 22 Love us, God, with all you’ve got— that’s what we’re depending on.
The Psalm is a cry for God and call for dependence. “I need you” – but my question is, “Is it a one way street?”
How can I cry out to God; “I’m trusting in you”; “Love me, with all you’ve got – that’s what I’m counting on” and what God gives, gives, gives and I take, take, take.
How fair is it to ask God to love me – “with all you’ve got” and I return that love with what? A prayer here and there.
An act of kindness now and then.
Worship once a week.
Is my love for God anywhere close to “with all I’ve got?”
The verse should be uplifting, “God’s there for me!”
I find it depressing, “How little am I there for God?”
Nothing in me questions your love.
I’m just praying your patience is just as great.
Because on any given day I can make life a whole lot more about me, than about You.
Teach me to love you more.
