FEAR GOD?

FEAR GODREFERENCE
Psalm 103:13-14 [ESV]  As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. 14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:13-14 [Message] As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him. 14 He knows us inside and out, keeps in mind that we’re made of mud.

EXPLORATION
What does it mean to fear God? I know it doesn’t mean to be afraid of God; so what does it mean? Reverence, awe, respect; perhaps – want!

APPLICATION
Fear Him more, not else.

PRAYER
Father,
Draw me close!

As a non-Christian, years ago, I thought this was the kind of paralyzing fear that we experience when we are afraid something bad will happen. Then when I started to hear about God, I noticed the messages were generally some variation of ‘God is love’…what’s to fear about that? Then I started to study the Bible and read about hell, judgement, eternal death and suddenly there was another side to God; omnipotent and our final judge. Why had I never heard that before? There was a God that seemed real. He had grace, salvation and the means to send us to eternal death if we rejected Him. At that point, I chose to be a follower of Christ. I only hope young people today can hear this message; especially sitting in the pew. It’s not good to keep his power a secret!

As a father loves his children… that was a tough one for me… til I had children and LOVED them!
