Luke 1:78-79 [Message] Through the heartfelt mercies of our God, God’s Sunrise will break in upon us, 79 Shining on those in the darkness, those sitting in the shadow of death, Then showing us the way, one foot at a time, down the path of peace.
Luke 1:78,79 [ESV] because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high 79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
I remember walking home late at night and it would be pitch black, there were no street lights on our roads in Mt. Hermon. If there was a full moon you’d have to strain to see but you could probably make it home without a flashlight. But any other night, you’d better have a light.
If you were to point that flashlight straight out, all you’d get is a glare against the darkness. But if you pointed just a few feet in front of your feet, it would light the road and you’d know where to take your next step.
God is His great love for us shines a light into our darkness. The light doesn’t show us the end which is far, far away. The light shows us our next step. Trusting the light, using the light, leads to peace.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 [ESV]
May I abide in it and know peace.
