2 Corinthians 10:3,4 [ESV] 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
2 Corinthians 10:3,4,5 [Message] 3 The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. 4 The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. 5 We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 [Phillips] The truth is that, although of course we lead normal human lives, the battle we are fighting is on the spiritual level. The very weapons we use are not those of human warfare but powerful in God’s warfare for the destruction of the enemy’s strongholds. Our battle is to bring down every deceptive fantasy and every imposing defense that men erect against the true knowledge of God. We even fight to capture every thought until it acknowledges the authority of Christ. Once we are sure of your obedience we shall not shrink from dealing with those who refuse to obey.
With each translation and paraphrase above I added a verse. Verse 3 declares war, verse 6 gets down to the finest details of the war plan.
I have sinful habits – big battles- and I know I need God to help me win them.
But the victory isn’t in winning the big battles, the victory is in total obedience.
What does total obedience look like? – verse 6; “We even fight to capture every thought until it acknowledges the authority of Christ.”
Obedience- in the big battles, and the little fights.
Battle On! – keep me ever mindful of that.
With each new day sharpen my spirit, attitudes, heart and mind with your Word and our conversations.
This day let me meditate on the ultimate end, “ capturing EVERY THOUGHT until it acknowledges the authority of Christ.”
Do we get there this side of heaven?
Talk about an ultimate New Year’s Resolutions! Wow!
