’13 RBY – READ the BIBLE in a YEAR – Day # 16 Scripture Reading: 1 Sam16 / 1 Chr 5
1 Samuel 16:1 [NLT] Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.”
I almost missed it, “go to Bethlehem” Isn’t it interesting that God would send Samuel to Bethlehem to find a king and that later the KING of KINGS would be born in the same town. GOD THING? You think so!
It’s also interesting to read that David wasn’t among his other brothers when Samuel was first looking for the one that the Lord had chosen. They had to wait for him to show up.
We read in 1 Samuel 16:11,12 [NLT] Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”12 So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.”
Just like Samuel waited for David, today we wait for the return of Jesus. He showed up in Bethlehem years later. He has shown up in my heart. And now we wait for our King to return. WAITING FAITH, we live in the assurance of what has been and the hope of what will be.
