’13 READ the BIBLE in a YEAR Today’s Scripture: 1 Samuel 30 / 1 Chronicles 10
1 Chronicles 10:11 [NLT] But when everyone in Jabesh-gilead heard about everything the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their mighty warriors brought the bodies of Saul and his sons back to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones beneath the great tree at Jabesh, and they fasted for seven days.
Jabesh-gilead? Ring a bell?
1 Samuel 11:1-3 [NLT] About a month later, King Nahash of Ammon led his army against the Israelite town of Jabesh-gilead. But all the citizens of Jabesh asked for peace. “Make a treaty with us, and we will be your servants,” they pleaded. 2 “All right,” Nahash said, “but only on one condition. I will gouge out the right eye of every one of you as a disgrace to all Israel!” 3 “Give us seven days to send messengers throughout Israel!” replied the elders of Jabesh. “If no one comes to save us, we will agree to your terms.”
When you read the 1 Samuel 11 account it doesn’t sound anything like the 1 Chronicles 10:12 account “their mighty warriors” …
Years ago, Saul came to the rescue for the Israelite town of Jabesh-gilead. And now the Bible records, “their might warriors” – rescued the dead bodies of Saul and his sons.
