’13 READ the BIBLE in a YEAR Today’s Reading: 2 Samuel 9 / John 9 / Psalm 130
Never miss the plural! [WE] live in a culture that is so [I] oriented that sometimes [WE] read the Bible and [WE] miss the plural pronouns and make everything about [US] – [I] mean [I] – [WE] have a tendency to personalize Scripture.
In John 9 Jesus is walking along with his disciples, and the disciples ask about a particular blind man, wanting to know why he was born blind. Part of Jesus’ answer is found in John 9:4,5 [NLT] … We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. 5 But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.”
There is a real urgency in Jesus’ answer, and the urgency involves [US]. What tasks is God calling [US] too? Not, what tasks are God calling [YOU] too?
US! What are [WE] to be doing for God? What must [WE] be carrying out quickly?
