2013 READ the BIBLE in a YEAR – Today’s Readings: Numbers 17,18 / Luke 8 / Psalm 85
For me one of the exciting things about reading the Bible everyday is praying to the Holy Spirit before I begin to read and asking him what it is he’d have me see, study and or share. What is so exciting about it is when He reveals something new in a passage that I’ve read many times and that is what happened this morning.
Luke chapter 8 is familiar text, parables, healing, miracles, – the calming of the storm, the delivery from demons, and a child life being restored.
And yet with all the teaching, all the drama, all the excitement of miracles it was one word that the Holy Spirit spoke to me about.
Begged; it’s mentioned twice: Luke 8:37 [NLT] And all the people in the region of the Gerasenes begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone, for a great wave of fear swept over them. So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake. 38 The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. But Jesus sent him home, saying, 39 “No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you.” So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.
BEGGED! And the Holy Spirit asked, which are you asking Jesus to do? Go away and leave you alone, or are you begging to go with him?
Without hesitation I answer; “I’m begging to go with him!” and without hesitation the Holy Spirit replies, “Your actions will speak louder than your words.”
